Zano® is Umicore's unique microfine size zinc oxide. Depending on the exact grade, the average particle size lies between 30 and 35 nm and has a narrow particle size distribution. Zano® is a true broad-band UV-absorber that shows excellent absorption in both the UV-B and UV-A region, while maintaining transparency in the visible light region.
Zano® is a safe material that complies with Pharmacopoeia guidelines (and as such can be used in cosmetics ...). In addition, zinc oxide is generally regarded as safe (GRAS) and can as such be used in food contact plastic applications. Being an inorganic material, it has no volatile organic compounds (VOC), does not migrate, and is heat stable.
Depending on the application, Zano® is available in both powder form (untreated and coated) and in dispersions that enhance application compatibility and performance. This makes Zano® a good material for use in applications such as cosmetics (sunscreens), clear coatings and plastics.
